Stations of the Cross
The Stations of the Cross, which follow the path of Christ from Pontius Pilate's praetorium to Christ's tomb are a popular devotion during Lent.
In the 16th century, this pathway was officially entitled the "Via Dolorosa" (Sorrowful Way) or simply the Way of the Cross or Stations of the Cross.
The stations are commonly used as a mini pilgrimage as the individual moves from station to station. At each station, the individual recalls and meditates on a specific event from Christ's last day. Specific prayers are recited, then the individual moves to the next station until all 14 are complete.
Everyone is very welcome to attend these short services, each Friday in Lent, during which we follow Our Lord’s journey from His trial before Pilate, to His Crucifixion and Burial.
Locations & Times
This is a traditional Lent service which Catholics have always attended. Do try to make an effort to come out on Fridays, with your family, to meditate on the Way of the Cross.
There are two opportunities each Friday in Lent for you to attend this service - in the afternoon at 3:45 pm in St Francis de Sales, or in the evening at 7:00pm in St Mary Magdalene.
As usual, Fr Bernard will lead Stations of the Cross at St Francis de Sales Church at 7.30 pm on Good Friday for those who are unable to attend the 3.00 pm Service of the Passion of the Lord.
All are welcome to attend the Stations of the Cross.
Below you can find the dates, times and locations for each of the parishioner led Stations of the Cross, with the exception of the one on Good Friday evening, which is led by Fr. Bernard.
