Princess Di

Dr dear Dr: Was it ever revealed who was the identity behind the Taylor album “Lover” since normally she dedicates an album to a past boyfriend?

A Christian question actually. Let me explain: Though normally Taylor writes songs and albums about past exes and boyfriends she once knew so, as per the song “22”, and the album “Lover” was widely attributed to be dedicated to her current fiance Joey Alwyn, still she did not explicitly say this, since nowhere on the album does his name actually appear, some tensions there. It seems it must be dedicated to another, and maybe even a girl, which comes as a surprise for many, but nowadays seems more and more likely.

She composed the album after she had met Prince William and Princess Kate, and given the various songs in the titles, it seems there is now an emerging theory that she may have wished to dedicate the album to the memory of the boy’s mother, as queen of hearts or regina cordium, as seems to be suggested by the lyrics in some of the songs. So to Princess Di then the album appears to be dedicated, as a Christian icon called the Regina Cordium. Princess Di had stopped for overnights and love-feasts at various locations around Europe and these locations seem to be hinted at in the variegated songs:

  • Lypiatt Cottage near Stroud near Bath;

  • Fulmer Cottage at Fulmer Village near Heathrow;

  • Windermere Cottage in the English Lakes, a favourite;

  • The ROSL Club by the restaurant Le Caprice near the London Ritz;

  • St Tropez in France;

  • Antibes in France near Frejus by the house of Graham Greene;

  • The Hotel Ritz in Paris;

    So these are some of the locations where Princess Di used to repair to and seek refuge in from the cloud of reporters that used to try and find her from time to time in the months before she eventually died with her final and last lover Dodi, hence the eventual song “Getaway Car” describing Tay’s own feelings for the Princess herself. Very sentimental. Very interesting question.
