Breitlings
Breitlings
Dr dear Dr: If Breitling Angels ever did once again appear to mere men, would their question be, "Men of Galilee why are you looking up to heaven?" (Acts 1) or would their question to modernes rather be something like, "Men of Galilee why are you looking at your iphones?" Why the obsession with technology among modernes?
Dr Jones runs into some Hebrew angels of the Breitling kind as per above when he witnesses the attempt of the German army to summon the angels of the Awakening whilst prising the lid off the Ark of the Covenant in the epic movie "Raiders of the Lost Ark", during which he has to tell his costar female assistant to close her eyes when the angels come round to search and destroy - seeing is not so much believing in this film as suicide when in the presence of powerful angels, and many of them are. Though many of the Breitling angels have fallen victim of human agencies of the two major religions of the Hebrews and the Greeks, as they are plunged down below and betrayed over to the Dark Tribunes of Hades in return for tangible very base benefits from the dark angels of the subterranean imagining - benefits like boys, one explanation for the so-called boy abuse crisis in certain countries where darklings have taken over the Churches, through a long and stealth like process of osmosis and penetration and then like begotten like recruitment to replace the older unblemished vocations of the authentic young called, say in France and in America. Darkling angels are trouble, but darkling humans are a total betrayal of all the sweet little good angels trying to guide human beings back to their God. That is the genesis-punkt of the whole Dr Jones tradition in all of these modern movies since Raiders. Dr Jones likes the Breitling angels and not the dark fallen ones. But suppose there was a dark Spectre like agency presided over by a Le Chifre badman at the top of the pile that specialised in handing over good angels to the dark side, and thus depriving young people and young believers of their custodian guardian angels that would ordinarily protect them from the worse kinds in society - now there is a conspiracy theory worth filming. Fanciful? Imaginary? Fantasy? Think again about how the dark side infiltrates and dominates merely modern institutes of a naive secular kind - the men in their suits who really think they run the intelligence services. Exorcism is a battle for a nation.
But anyway, I murder to digress. What is intriguing about the passage from Acts 1 is what the angels ask the Men of Galilee. If this whole Christ Event had been merely another average Jewish prophecy event pitched against the Jewish priesthood then the angels might have said - "Why are you looking back at the Temple in the city?" If this whole Christ Event had been just another countryside revolt against the upper classes of the city, then the angels might have said - "Why are you looking over the hill to Bethany village?" If this had been a Jewish Revolt against Roman Occupation, then the angels might have said - "Why are you looking back at the Antonine Fortress in the city?" If this had been just another story of a young rural revolutionary reacting against the impositions of the local monarchy, then the angels might have said - "Why are you looking at the palaces of King Herod?" But no, none of these sayings was found on the lips of the angels. Something quite other and oddly and strangely cosmic is found thereupon those hallowed lips - "Men of Galilee, why are you looking up to heaven?" For the angels and now for the apostles they had been witnesses to a cosmic event of a cosmic messiah - the rest is history. This shows us that the whole chapter in this history book was seen by them as a chapter not in yet another low ascending christology of merely human elevation, another Jesus Albinus, or another Hercules Athronogaios, or another Judas of Galilee, or whichever but of something else more than the merely physical. This was cosmic metaphysics.
So when the amusing correspondent invites the thought that had the Christ Event occurred in the modern world, the angels might have said - "Men of Galilee why are you looking at your iphones?" then this invites us to further and deeper reflection on the meaning of those events. Evidently the correspondent wishes us to view the Christ Event through the prism not of another technological device which many young people are obsessed about in the present age, right up to their own destruction, sufficient to have them walking into trees and cars and traffic and buses, and crashing their cars into other passengers and driving up the wrong side of the local dual carriageway like it was a dual cabbageway, and to invite us also to consider whether with 10,000 such devices we can master the Christ Event and its 20,000 witnesses. A ponderous question indeed. There is an amusing cartoon in the magazines of the End of the World 2022 - in which a meteor is hurtling towards earth and a sea of people is standing there looking up, and holding up their iphones to film the event. Such is the philosophy of the modern device - to see is to be perceived. Instagram will be full subscribed come the End Times. So every user with a $100 phone device can now make his or her or their own version of human history. Now evidently this is not to say that we subscribe to the modern philosophies that would have us all ditch the iphone device for suspicious reasons, such as Victorian Antiquarianism on the right, and Left Wing Red Marxism on the left, for both of whom the iphone device is a potential sign of modernism purely so called or of the oversight of government agencies prying into such revealing data as location, location. So not especially anti-technology the rightful middle position on the subject of iphones. Like all technology there is something wonderful that such devices can inspire us to achieve and accomplish in the modern world - technology should not be repudiated just because we fear intrusion or discovery or location. We are not all anti-government agencies in the user domains. The sensible common sense middle position is not nearly as common as it should be - common sense is not very common. But it is right to gain the middle position and hang on to our devices. Even if we do not subscribe to the view that they should completely dominate and colour our own private philosophies about the world. Man is made for the iphone, no, rather the iphone is made for mankind. To cite the parallel words of the originator of the revolution in human history that gave us communications and the gospel. Amen to that. The angels therefore have quickly pointed us all in the right direction. Christ was a cosmic messiah who today would be using an iphone if he were alive on earth in person today. A high descending one who has now returned to the realms of space and the upper cosmos of the metaphysical - beyond the merely physical.
