0027 & 0255
Dr Jurist dear Dr Jurist: It is because I am at my wit’s end that I repair to you as a Jurist in the maybe vain hope that a lawyer will clarify to me why there are so many competing doctrines of the Trinity around in the sermons of the clergy in my home diocese to the south near Windsor Castle, any light to shed?
Generally, we do not comment on other dioceses, but worry not to the hapless reader, we jurists understand the sources in councils much and tend to point to the official compendiums as fonts for theologians budding to make an impression, so thuswise the official positions on this subject can be consulted by buying a Global Catechism and opening the pages at Articles 0027 and 0255 and there reading the super-imposed position of the whole magisterium on the subject of the Trinity, though Latin professors still argue long and hard over the correct use of the words “inter Se” in the formulas adopted, as distinct from “inter Sese” the correct form for 0255. Lots of debate but recall that doctrine is doctrine and dogma is a science too. Do buy a Compendium and remember that jurists and canonists were defending dogma in the 1970s and 1980s and 1990s when many dogmaticians had long long long fled the field and hidden themselves in the ferns and long grass of the fields of systematics and patristics. Enjoy the ride in that ever popular Compendium.
